Thanks for viewing this page !

Please note: I do show the swastika on the pictures / profiles here at my WW2 Luftwaffe-pages.
In minor case someone maybe offended by viewing this old symbol.

Well, just don`t view any of the pics shown here and you should be fine..!

---

In the hard case, in Germany it is forbidden to show the swastika and other symbols related to the NAZI party anywhere in public,
other than for educational or historical information.

I do intend to show them here having this in mind !

I thought about changing them to a close looking other symbol, but actually this is forbidden by the same law as well.
But: The law forbids this for use in organisations or parties. It is not forbidden to have stuff from your parents or grandparents from that time at home today. Remember, the swastika was printed on nearly everything in Germany between 1933 and 1945.
The only way out of this dilemma would be, to overpaint it with something else, like a smiley - or not to paint it at all.
But finally I decided to show them here as they really were.

Reason:

The swastika used by the Luftwaffe changed in size, style and place on the fin of planes before and during the time of World War 2.
Beside other indicators it is an important piece for dating the use of an airplane and its place / unit of operation.
In case of bad pics or wrong angle - it can be the only one!

Also, there really have been German aircraft without swastika fighting in WW2!

If you do not believe me, see this example:

This is the aircraft of Geschwaderkommodore JG 53,
> von Cramon-Traubadel <
during the Battle of Britain in August 1940

The red band had to be applied as a "mark of shame" because he was married to a jewish wife.
The band was painted over the JG 53 "Ace of Spades" symbol normally to find at this place at the cowling.
Not only on his plane, but for the whole Jagdgeschwader 53!
Because of that, the entire JG 53
removed the swastikas from the tail as a sign to protest shortly after.
(Note: A German soldier, even in WW2 time is not automatically a NAZI (member of the NSDAP-party), but many indeed were.)

(See full story HERE)

So with blending the swastika out, I would not only abandon the possibility of a helping indicator and blend information out,
I would even turn it into WRONG INFORMATION !

Again: I am not glorifying the swastika or Nazi-party in general in any case by doing this !!!

Rather I show Axis and Allied airplanes next to each other, but on own pages.
So you need to see all to understand, that I am in a neutral position.

If you want to learn more about the swastika`s history before the National party took it for their logo,
and how it still today is used just normally as a sign of luck in Asia, see this page:
