13. (Zerstoerer) Staffel

Staffelkapitaene:
  • Olt Felix Maria Brandis, 25.1.42 - 2.2.42
  • Olt Max Franzisket (acting), 2.42 - 3.42
  • Olt Karl-Fritz Schloßstein, 3.42 - 6.43
  • Olt Hans Kirchmeier (acting), 6.43 - 9.43
  • Hptm Herbert Treppe, 6.43 - 7.44
Note: The last "R" would indicate these are planes of the 7. Staffel of a Kampf-/Zerstoerergeschwader.
And so, many sources say these are from 7./JG 5, but this is obviously wrong.

Jagdgeschwader 5 operated only this Zerstoererstaffel and it is remarkable enough, that Bf 110 were used in a Jagdgeschwader.
The codes seem to be factory codes to me.

The Zerstoererstaffel alway kept the next number of the Staffel next to these in Gruppen.
When there were three Gruppen it was the 10./JG5
And when the fourth Gruppe was formed in June 1942, the Zerstoererstaffel became the 13./JG5

Reichsverteidigung

In the final stages of the war, when the Luftwaffe was already forced to move back to Germany, the units were reorganized.

Now a Gruppe contained 4 Staffeln.

Units which had the order to protect the Homeland ("Reich"), received a fuselage band.

Other than before, these were now not a marking for a special place or theatre, but a recognizing help for each unit,
and each had its own colors for the band.

The Reichsverteidigungsband of Jagdgeschwader 5 was black/yellow:
